Boundaries are something so many people struggle with. As an empath, I at first felt they were being harsh or hurtful. Then I learned that boundaries are not to keep others out, far from that, they are an act of self-love and our sacred birthright.
I think that I, and so many, feel they are harsh because by the time most people are ready and willing to set them, it is when they have been pushed too far or allowed too much. This is a typical empath pattern. They just want to help, to serve, to support others, but what happens, and I am speaking from the school of hard knocks, is that they overgive until they are depleted, feeling rejected or like things are not reciprocated and/or they just can't do it anymore, aka burnout.
Sound familiar!
This is why boundaries are so vital, not to keep people out but to allow you to do what you are here to do from a clear and open heart space, not from wounding and trauma.
When we set boundaries, we choose who, when and where we will share our energy. Your energy is a sacred gift, and YOU get to decide who to give it to.
When you look at boundaries from this perspective, it moves out of the energy of trying to keep people away into a space of welcoming those who are willing, ready and capable of receiving your energy. If we are always running, trying to save others, we easily deplete ourselves and drain our energy, and most of the time, we can feel resentful for giving our all and nothing being reciprocated, respected or understood.
BUT
When we set energetic boundaries, we choose! We have the power to say "I have time and energy to give you 100% of myself" or not. And this is the power of boundaries.
Those who cannot accept it are not your concern; what is your concern is you and your energy.
It is also important to note that boundaries are always fluid and flexible, just like we are. What is OK in one moment doesn't make it OK the next. You always get ot choose.
So when it comes to setting boundaries, think of them less like walls and more like fluid energy protecting your Divine nature.
Much Love
Tara
